This table provides figures about the 50 most populous nations in the world as of February 2019. China is the most populous country with nearly 1.4 billion residents. Since India's population is less than 50 million behind China; there could be a time when India surpasses its neighbor country in population. The estimated population of the world is 7.7 billion as of 2019.
